Our topic for March 16, 2011 was presentation software and sharing ideas. Members of the chat discussed PowerPoint, Keynote, Prezi and SlideRocket as possibilities for presentations. There was a lot of dicussion about the pros and cons of using Keynote (Mac software) versus PowerPoint. Keynote appears to be superior in allowing for custom graphics, transitions, etc. but does not convert well to PowerPoint and chat members have had difficulty with sharing on SlideShare. The chat turned to ideas for creating better presentations and some great resources were shared. The book slide:ology: The Art and Science of Creating Great Presentations (affiliate link) was shared by Neely from @MnEnChallenge as a good resource for helping to create powerful presentations. A final thought was shared with me on Twitter after the chat from @Jeremy_Irvine (from Australia – yes #NpTalk really does cross times zones and continents). Jeremy sent a link to an article he wrote titled “PowerPoint-Less” which brings another idea to the table, should we use presentation software at all? Check out the transcript below for more details.
